Chiropractors specialise in neuro-muscular disorders and how they impact our physical and mental health. We believe that our body can heal itself with help from chiropractic treatments, such as spinal manipulation and spinal decompression.
Chiropractors believe the body's musculoskeletal structure must be aligned correctly to prevent health issues and maintain optimum health. Chiropractic care isn't just manual manipulation of the body, it can also include: Spinal decompression, laser therapy, acupuncture or cryotherapy. Chiropractic treatments are non-surgical and non-invasive.
Some patients only visit us a handful of times. Other patients require weeks or months of consistent, regular care. The amount of time needed for your specific recovery depends on a number of factors, including the severity of your condition and the level of improvement you want to see.Chiropractors treat a wide range of symptoms that impact your health and well-being. Our team helps patients effectively manage the following symptoms:
Pain, Tingling, Dizziness, Nausea, Headache, inflammation, Limited Mobility,
But also; Brain-Body integration for children, integration of primitive reflexes and other methods to improve mind, body and brain health.
Neurodevelopmental delays are defined as difficulties associated with the functioning of the neurological system and brain. Examples in children include attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADD or ADHD), learning difficulties and impairments in vision and hearing.
Children with neurodevelopmental delays typically display difficulties with language, speech, motor skills, (social) behaviour, memory, recall and learning.
Symptoms of neurodevelopmental disabilities often change or evolve as a child grows older, some difficulties remain persistent.
Traditionally, treatment for ADHD/ADD and behaviour disorders is medication. mostly via Methylphenidate, more seldom via Antidepressants. However, around 20% of all children fail to respond to these medications and in many responders there is still room for improvement.
Long term follow up on these cases showed that substantial part of the patients presented with the symptoms once the medication stopped - indicating that the medication might only mask the symptoms, not improve them.
At the clinic, we use an array of different methods which aim to normalise and regulate brain activity. one of these methods is neuro-feedback.
Neurofeedback appears to be a promising alternative or additional treatment EEG-neurofeedback training involves the self-regulation of the different types of brain waves by means of visual and/or auditory feedback.
Different brain waves are associated with different states. Brain waves are measured in Hertz (Hz) cycles per second, and can change across a wide range of variables. When slower brain waves are dominant we can feel sluggish, inattentive and scattered, and can feel depressed or develop insomnia.
When higher frequencies abound, we are engaged in critical thinking, hyper-alertness or anxiety, but can also result in hyper-vigilance and impulsive behaviour. - it is here that we aim to find a balance and stabilise any underlying symptoms; which are closely linked and may exacerbate mood disorders, learning and social behaviours and language/speech skills.
Changes made in the desired direction are positively reinforced and supplemented with different methods with the aim to improve and maintain lasting neurological and brain function, we see a strong correlation between neurodevelopmental delays and with unintegrated primitive reflexes; integration of the reflexes helps with neurodevelopmental stability.
As each child is unique and different; treatment is designed specifically to cater to your child and their needs.
Babies are born with a set of reflexes that serve three main objectives:
1) They aid babies to make their way through the birth canal.
2) They enable babies to survive the first few months of life.
3) They provide babies the ability to practice movement patterns which are required later in life.
These reflexes originate from the brainstem and therefore are automatic.
These reflexes typically integrate into postural reflexes and serve us into adulthood.
Poor integration of these reflexes can lead to an array of issues;
from sloppy handwriting, poor balance/spatial awareness to speech and language difficulties, poor integration can negatively affect many aspects of our growing and adult life. (a full list of reflexes and further reading is available here.)
Through a set of specific exercises and methods we look to integrate these reflexes and aid in typical development of your child.
We regularly see parents bring their children in for visits shortly after birth. Dr. Nageena specialises in Chiropractic care for children with a particular focus on Functional Neurology; looking to enhance brain-body integration and primitive reflexes.
Active kids can knock their spine out of alignment as they run, jump, or fall. Kids who log plenty of screen time often experience neck pain or aches in their arms and hands.
Some patients only visit us a handful of times. Other patients require weeks or months of consistent, regular care. The amount of time needed for your specific recovery depends on a number of factors, including the severity of your condition and the level of improvement you want to see.
We do have some patients who do not improve to a desired level with chiropractic care; When this happens, we refer them to other practitioners who can help. Some patients visit other specialists at Canadian Medical Center for services such as physical therapy, therapeutic injections, or simply to see a General practitioner.
